Gear up for the longest Escalator ride in Hong Kong

Perhaps Hong Kong’s Central-Mid-Levels Escalator is the most eccentric way of commuting inside the town. Built in 1994, the escalator carries almost 60,000 people form point A to B every day. When I first heard about the escalator, I was pretty much amazed but my amusement went out of proportion when locals told me that they use the escalator to reach work.

Trust me, that locals form the Mid Level area hop on to this gigantic escalator to reach central town for work and vice versa. The complete and complex network of escalators covers almost 800 meter of distance and elevates you to the height of 135 meters. The escalator has very complex timing also, from 6.00 AM to 10 AM it runs down hill and from 10.15 AM to 12.00 AM runs uphill.

The ride on the world’s largest escalator last for almost 30 minutes one way. As I climbed uphill on the escalator going through the Soho District, I enjoyed some of the spectacular view of Hong Kong and it’s Down-Town. In the evening the escalator is crowded by couples, locals and tourists to enjoy the great views of the Wet Market and Dai Pai Dong. The escalator has many junctions in between where you can take a pit stop and capture magnificent Hong Kong’s skyline in your camera.

Commuting through Escalator is the best way of exploring Hong Kong according to me for following reasons.
• There are no charges for this invention of modern Hong Kong i.e. it’s completely FREE.
• It gives spectacular view of Hong Kong, so people like me who love to take pictures it will offer them a perfect panorama.
• Ideal place to get involved with locals however avoid busy hours as locals really hate to share their space when they are going for work.
