Montreal’s Underground City

The most important aspect of Montreal’s life is their Underground City, which is also called as La Ville Souterraine. Montreal’s Underground City (which is the biggest in the world) is spread around 12 square kilometers of area and has almost 30 kilometers of tunnels spread all over. Nearly quarter million of people (be it tourist or locals) visit this extravagant world of Underground which has shopping malls, hotels, banks, offices, museums, universities, metro stations, commuter train stations, and the Bell Centre amphitheatre and arena.

Taking a tour of this Underground City is mandatory, if you want to get acquainted with every aspect of Montreal’s life. Once you take a tour of the Underground city, trust me you will be surprised to see how brightly lit passages connects thousands of boutiques, hotels, restaurants, universities, offices and many attractions.

The Underground city is world famous for its shopping experience, so if you are visiting Montreal do swing by to shop or at least window shop. Some of the most famous shopping malls in this city are The Eaton Centre, Cours Mont-Royal, Complexe Les Ailes, Place Montreal Trust, and Place Ville-Marie. I think out of all the mentioned malls the most famous mall is The Eaton Centre, as it is located in the heart of Underground City and downtown core connected via McGill Metro Station.

So if you are a shopping fanatic I am sure you will be delighted to see brands like The Gap, Old Navy, Jacob, Tommy, Guess, Zara, Mexx, Le Chateau, Aldo and many more here. After a day of shopping you can always stop by the many amazing restaurants like RIDI Bar Ristorante, B & B Bar, and Restaurant L’ Academine serving authentic French cuisine. So make sure whenever you visit Montreal, you do visit this integral part of Montreal’s life and culture.
