Shopping in Tokyo

You can buy items including electronics, funky fashions, antique furniture and kimono, the traditional Japanese dress worn by men, women and children. You can also get some special Hello Kitty goods, animations and comics for your kids. For gadgets buffs, Tokyo is a treasure trove waiting to be explored.

Check out the famous shopping areas like the Akihabara, Tokyo’s electronic town and stores like the Chuo-dori selling anime and manga i.e. animations and comics. You can also buy these things in Nakano and Broadway shopping arcade. People interested in antiques can head towards Antique mall in Ginza or Antique market in Omotesando. The Antique festival at Tokyo Ryutsu Center is held some 5-6 times in a year.

Looking for funky fashion clothes and accessories, then Shibuya and Harajuku are best known shopping areas for clothing. Also there are many departmental stores and boutiques which carry the latest in trend. For this the famous Ginza and Ikebukuro’s giant Seibu and Tobu are some good options. Nakamise in Asakusa and Oriental Bazaar in Omotesando has stock of kanji-emblazoned T-shirts, foreigner sized kimonos, ninja outfits for kids and samurai swords which you will not find anywhere else.

Tokyo has been an ideal place for buying electronics and cameras. You can find electronics stores in Akihabara which has many duty free shops selling export models. You can find camera stores in Shinjuku. There are also many shops selling cheap local models.
